Since there’s going to be (theoretically, hopefully) three people writing on this blog, I figured I’d put the first step forward and write a short post/novel about myself. The other two are free to follow the general format of this. Sure, why not, right?
Like the other two people I’ve invited to blog here about anything and everything, but not that, I’m an Taiwanese-American who has spent most of their life Stateside. I’m the eldest of the three, which means that at the time of this writing I’ll be entering graduate school at the Thunderbird School of Global Management in the fall. I’m looking forward to that, in part because it’s not in Goddamnainesville, Fluckingorida. I speak English fluently, Japanese somewhat conversationally, and my Chinese makes Baby Jesus weep tears of blood. But it’s understandable.
Philosophically, I believe I am foremost a big fat hypocrite. I also think that chivalry can be maintained in a practical manner in the modern world, and people that fall outside of even those generous borders should be maimed in interesting ways. I think, Schoolhouse Rock style, that Information is Power (no, not Knowledge, screw that shit), and try to read everything on the internet that could possibly be a conversation or otherwise useful in the future; if I ever have a family, I want to teach my child/children to do the same. This coming century is a Pacific Century in my opinion, so I’ll write some stuff on that once or if we get rolling.
For fun, I play anything that racks incredible odds against the player character, like Medieval 2: Total War on Very Hard and Tom Clancy tactical shooters. I watch a good bit of anime, but am rather picky about it and make fun of people for watching what I think is trashy anime. I also do kung fu, draw badly, play piano and violin worse, and fail at finding girlfriends. I ride a black 2006 Kawasaki Ninja 250R.
Right now, my goals are to go to Insead in Singapore, live frugally and comfortably, and own a nice, cozy apartment neatly organized with things I like. In particular, I think it’d be really cool to integrate a home entertainment system with my computer, and use a 40 inch 1080p HDTV as my monitor. Whatever the case, I’ll have a futon and not a bed, because mattresses don’t agree with my back.
